Architecture & Environment

The module highlights the elements of environment conditions and problems. It discusses on how human intervention could bring positive or negative impact towards the environment. Upon progressing in this module, students will learn the basic components of climate and how it influences architecture, which is then analyzed by students and encourage them to come out with solutions in terms of creating environmental and human-friendly building designs.

P1 OVERVIEW

Case Study - Assessing Daylight & Thermal Comfort at Modern Houses

In groups of 6, students are tasked to select 1 space each factor focusing on daylight and thermal comfort factors. Based on the identified issues and data collections, students will then propose passive design ideas to tackle and improve the condition for both daylighting and thermal comfort.

P2 OVERVIEW

Artificial Lighting Design Layout: LUMEN METHOD

In groups of 5-6, students are tasked to select indoor space of approximately 10m x 6m. Upon finalizing the information and findings, students are then required to propose at least 2 types of lighting to be implemented to the selected space, while also applying the LUMEN METHOD calculation to determine the lux standards of the room.
